11th International LDS art competition

It’s that time again. I submitted this.

The theme this time around is “Meditations on Belief.”

Artist’s statement:.

“Now when our hearts were depressed, and we were about to turn back … behold, the Lord comforted us, and said: Go … and bear with patience thine afflictions, and I will give you success.” (Alma 26:27.)

When, as so often happens, we find ourselves “tossed upon life’s billows,” a sustaining hope and comfort shines from steady beacons such as; eternal family relationships, covenants kept, service given, and prayers answered. Heaven whispers, “it will all work out,” to the troubled ear, promising eventual deliverance to those who wait upon the Lord. In this autobiographical painting—a story of chronic illness with its broad and tangled wake—a temporally difficult situation is made bearable—even pleasant—by harmonious living in the way of the Gospel. Here, the artist suggests that such eternal truths, operative in the home, may sanctify and bless the most unpromising situations—as they have ours.

  1. Abby, this is beautiful – you’ve captured some precious truths in the picture and your description. What a great reminder that things will work out, and that the angels sent to bless and help us are often our own family members. Thank you.
